Yesterday's game was a total beat down of the Houston Astros. Their starter only lasted 2 and a third innings, the Reds scored 15 runs, Gomes almost hit for the cycle (he only needed a double),
You can really see the intensity in Gomes's eyes when he is batting. It looks like he is really focusing and trying to get a hit or drive in a run. This is probably why is one of the teams leaders in RBIs and has a great average with runners in scoring position.
I don't really enjoy watching blowout games though they get pretty boring because the tension/excitement is gone so I stopped watching after the grand slam.
On another note it's nice to see the Reds in first place, they haven't held first place in a long time. I'm hoping they continue to win, because it's a fun team to watch.

Taking Two Outta Three
Well it was a successful weekend for the Reds. After losing the opening game to the Cards and snapping a 5 game winning streak the Reds won the next two games. The last game with Arroyo starting was just dominating.
I was afraid the Reds offense would have problems against Brad Penny, but they just kept hitting him almost every inning it was great. The final score ended up being 7-2 and the Reds had the lead the whole game. With this win the Reds pulled into first place for the first time this month.
They seem to be on a tear lately especially the pitching. I think the players are finally starting to gel and it seems like the veteran pitchers are feeding off Mike Leake's great outings.

Bruce's Arm
I'm watching the Reds vs Cubs game right now and it's been an exciting game for the first few innings. Already Votto hit a deep homer run to straight away centerfield with a runner on first. Right now the score is 2-0 Reds, but the Cubs could have easily scored a run if it wasn't for Jay Bruce's defense.
Let me describe it to you. There was a runner on second base and the batter hit the ball down the right field line. It wasn't catchable so the runner started and was waived around 3rd base. I'm not sure if he was a really fast guy; he looked like about average speed. Bruce charges the ball and gets to it quickly and fires a bullet to the catcher Ryan Hanigan. Hanigan catches it about head high and has plenty of time to tag out the runner. Man that was a great play. It seems like teams to keep challenging Jay, and they keep paying the price for it.
